Ball President Ahmed Tinubu on Friday defended the brave economic decision taken by his government, saying they were very important to place Nigeria in a sustainable growth path.
Speaking at the State Building in Abuja when receiving Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz al-Khulaifi, a special delegation from Amir Qatar, Tinubu acknowledged the burden of reform recently but expressed optimism about their long-term benefits.
“We make efforts to reform our tax system. Doing with past experience and the need to depart from the old way, our reforms are difficult,” said Tinubu. “I make a difficult decision so that we can grow. We gradually see the light at the end of the tunnel.”
The President underlined the commitment of his government to improve the Nigerian investment climate, citing new changes in tax policies aimed at attracting direct foreign investment. He stressed that Nigeria, regardless of his current challenges, remains the main goal for international partnerships.
“You cannot find a better partner than Nigeria,” Tinubu said, adding that he admired Qatar’s transformation into a knowledge-based economy and expressed the desire for Nigeria to replicate these progress, especially in fields such as food sovereignty and economic inclusion.
During the meeting, President Tinubu reiterated Nigeria’s willingness to build the momentum produced by the State visit of 2024 to Doha, promised to fully apply bilateral agreements achieved by the Gulf nation. He directed the main minister, including Minister of Economic and Economic Planning Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, Foreign Minister Yusuf Tuggar, and Minister of Information Mohammed Idris, to accelerate the implementation of this agreement.

This visit came at a very important time for the Nigerian economy, because residents continued to wrestle with inflation, rise in living costs, and transfer of subsidies. Tinubu reform encouragement has triggered a widespread debate, with critics quoting economic tensions in the population, while supporters argue that structural changes are needed for lasting development.
Qatar Delegation, Dr. Al-Khulaifi, conveyed the message of good intentions from His Majesty, Amir Qatar, expressed his interest in expanding economic and strategic cooperation with Nigeria. He announced plans for high -level Qatar business delegations to visit Nigeria in the coming weeks to explore investment opportunities in agriculture, food security, and petrochemicals.
“We are proud of the level of relationships that we have achieved with Nigeria,” Al-Khulaifi said. “Our Ambassador has followed up on these projects. We have companies that want to enter the Nigeria market.”
Al-Khulaifi, who also played an important role in peace mediation efforts throughout Africa and the Middle East, added that Qatar viewed Nigeria as a vital strategic partner on the continent.
President Tinubu, in turn, praised Qatar’s efforts in the development of global peace and the focus of its development. “Like you, we are stuck among the challenges of terrorism and the task of helping our neighbors. We realize who our friends are and those who help us fix our problems,” he said.
