Tinubu orders review of legacy road projects

President Bola Tinubu has ordered a review of all road projects inherited by his administration to ensure fairness and diligence in their implementation.

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed this to State House correspondents after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on Wednesday in Abuja.

He said the Council decided to halt projects in the Ministry of Public Works inherited by the Tinubu administration and required adjustment and cost variation.

He said the president ordered that the memo submitted by Public Works Minister Dave Umahi be reviewed at the next council meeting.

The minister said: β€œThe idea is to review, especially the parts that need addition or review.

β€œThe Minister of Public Works is instructed to work with the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning and the Minister of Finance to review the projects and ensure they are in accordance with the budget provisions.”

Idris said the Council also found that the National Procurement Council had been ineffective in the past 17 years.

β€œTherefore, the President has submitted a draft law to the National Assembly and it has gone through the first reading stage in the DPR.

β€œThe whole idea is to ensure that we have a strong National Procurement Council that will look at all aspects of procurement, and bring every project into the fiscal financial discipline that the President always talks about,” he added.
