He said: “Over the years, the Nigerian Army has played a vital role in the security and unity of Nigeria; the Army remains a vital element towards nation building.
“With the increasing security challenges in the last one and a half years, the Nigerian army has played a key role in protecting lives and property.
“By looking at the completeness of the equipment and physical fitness of the soldiers that I saw today, I am sure that the TNI is ready to maintain the integrity of the territory.
“We are committed to providing everything necessary for the Nigerian army to play its role professionally and effectively.”
Earlier in his remarks, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, thanked the president for his trust and support for the army in its efforts to overcome all forms of insecurity in the country.

COAS said: “The Nigerian Army remains committed to its mission statement, which is to ‘Win all Land Battles in Defending the Territorial Integrity of Nigeria, Protecting its National Interests and Performing Other Tasks in Assistance to Civil Authorities.’
“Fulfilling this responsibility sometimes requires us to make the greatest sacrifices; for that, we are constantly involved in preparing ourselves for this difficult task by honing our skills and competencies for this task.
“The Nigerian Army under my watch is committed to enhancing our operational effectiveness to meet the ever-changing and complex violent threats to the country.
“The TNI has also expanded and deepened its training activities for operational effectiveness. These measures have enabled us to successfully contain banditry in the North-West while Boko Haram terrorists’ violent crimes have been reduced to an all-time low.”
