Tinubu signs bill on establishment of commission to promote development in Northwest and Southeast regions

President Bola Tinubu has signed a bill to accelerate development in the country’s geopolitical zones.

Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja.

The bills are the North West Development Commission (Establishment) Bill 2024, and the South East Development Commission (Establishment) Bill 2023.

Ngelale said the North West Development Commission was formed to facilitate the reconstruction of roads, homes and businesses destroyed by the multidimensional crisis.

The commission is also expected to address poverty, literacy rates, ecological issues and other environmental or development-related challenges in the North-Western states.

The spokesman added that the Southeast Development Commission was formed to ensure the reconstruction and rehabilitation of roads, houses and other infrastructure damage suffered by the zone.

It is also expected to address ecological issues and other related environmental or development challenges in Southeast countries.

“President Tinubu believes in nation building based on the principles of justice, equality and unity.

“He is therefore committed to ensuring equitable development, inclusive governance and quality service delivery to all Nigerians — wherever they live — while further strengthening the national fabric,” he said.
