President Bola Tinubu asked for urgent reforms to global systems, soliciting greater inclusion and equity for Africa and other emerging economies.
Tinubu made the call to the 17th meeting of global South and to emerging economies, Brics, in Rio de Janeiro, in Brazil, Saturday 5 July 2025.
The president supported the most fair global financial and health structures.
Tinubu, who was invited to the top by the Brazilian president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, said that Nigeria supports the Brics position on the need to focus on the global collective, fair and fair development.
“Nigeria, therefore, members of what I listened to today and everything that happened in Brics. The next numbers are the financial renovation and the revaluation of the global structure,” said the president in a declaration issued by his spokesperson, Bayo Obanuga, Monday 7 July.
He observed that environmental degradation, the climatic crisis and global health inequalities were shared concerns relevant to Africa.
“Africa has contributed less to global emissions but suffers more,” added Tinubu.
Tinubu underlined the need for a new path of justice, anchored in fairness, transfer of sustainable technology and accessible funding, so that emerging economies can benefit from various initiatives.
Tinubu also said that dealing with non -transmissible diseases must remain a collective health problem.
He said: “While we approach Cop-30 and try to strengthen the global health system, we believe that the Brics should not be only a block for emerging economies, but also a lighthouse for emerging solutions and resolutions rooted in solidarity, self-sufficiency, sustainability and shared prosperity of a common future.
“Nigeria reiterates its commitment to strategic collaboration that translates into sustainable and inclusive development for everyone.”
