Tracy Ohiri’s Accusations Against Umahi Are Politically Motivated – Ohanaeze

The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has said the controversy surrounding Mrs Tracy Nicholas Ohiri is politically motivated, alleging that opposition forces are behind her renewed allegations against the Minister of Works, David Umahi.

In a statement released on Sunday, the group said Ohiri’s reappearance on fresh charges despite his earlier public apology and retraction raises concerns of external political influence aimed at discrediting the former Ebonyi State governor.

Ohanaeze specifically pointed the finger at elements within the African Democratic Congress, accusing them of orchestrating a campaign to undermine Umahi’s reputation and distract him from his responsibilities as Minister of Works.

The organisation, through its vice-president, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, and national spokesperson, Chinyeze Ohia, said the development reflects a wider pattern of political attacks against key government figures.

He noted that Ohiri had previously recanted his allegations of sexual harassment against Umahi and had publicly asked for his forgiveness, describing his latest statements as inconsistent and politically suspect.

Ohanaeze also dismissed reports that Umahi paid compensation to Ohiri, insisting that any financial support he received came from private contributions from concerned Nigerians and members of the Igbo community.

According to the group, the gesture was voluntary and not linked to the minister, stressing that attempts to link Umahi to any monetary deal were part of a calculated effort to tarnish his image.

The organization warned that the politicization of personal disputes and unverified allegations could erode public trust and destabilize governance if left unaddressed.

He also urged Ohiri to refrain from being used as a tool in political battles, while calling on her family to seek appropriate medical care for her.

Ohanaeze argued that political actors should focus on constructive engagement rather than what he described as smear campaigns against public office holders.
