Trainers Training: Ikenne Training of NPLCMA/AMAPRO Raises tactical standards

The serene city of Ikenne in the state of Ogun was the host of an impressive meeting of elite soccer minds such as the Association of Clubs of the Premier League of Nigeria, NPLCMA celebrated its advanced technical and tactical training/workshop between June 25 and 28, 2025.

The event attracted the best club soccer coaches across the country, seeking to refresh their tactical understanding and embrace new dimensions in modern soccer training.

Packed jointly by AMAPRO and PHREESTYLE SPORT LIMITED, the three -day intensive training session presented people of renowned resources who brought with them a lot of knowledge and experience.

The sessions were designed to expose participants to global best practices and evolving methodologies in the art and science of coaching.

The event was a great matter, adorned by the best dignitaries in Nigerian football. Among them were the president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusta; his vice president, Honorable Gbanga Elegbeleye; and the technical chief of the NFF, Augustine Eguavoen.

The football investor and philanthropist, the honorable Kunle Soname, the president of NPLCMA, coach Gbenga Ogunbote, as well as other key interested parties were also present.

In his welcome speech, coach Gbenga Ogunbote expressed a deep appreciation to the members of the association for taking the time of his schedules to attend training.

He emphasized the importance of continuous learning, stating that the workshop was not only a review but also a platform to align with new views and innovations in coaching.

In his comments, the president of NFF, Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau, praised NPLCMA for the initiative, describing the workshop as appropriate and progressive.

He assured the association of the Federation’s disposition to support similar future initiatives aimed at increasing training standards in the country.

The vice president of NFF and president of Nigeria Premier Football League, Board of NPFL, Honorable GBENGA ELEBBELEYEE, also praised the organizers and requested synergy between the NPFL and the NPLCMA.

Honorable Kunle Soname encouraged the continuity of such capacity construction efforts, noting that training is key to achieving excellence in football at Club and Nacional level.

The first day of the workshop presented attractive presentations that caused vibrant discussions.

Mohammed Elbinary began things with a conference on “scientific approaches for coaching”, challenging participants to adopt evidence -based data and strategies.

Augustine Eguavoen continued with an exciting presentation on “leadership and our national philosophy”, highlighting the need for identity and direction in the training of Nigerian teams.

The coach on Monday Odigie offered a well received session on the concepts of grip and gag, modern acronyms in training circles, explaining the way they align with the management of players and tactical discipline.

The day concluded with an open floor technical exchange session, allowing coaches to share experiences and learn from each other.

On the second day he continued in the same rich vein, Shodunnke Shogo, director of AMAPRO and PHREESTYLE SPORT LIMITED, gave a insightful talk about “communication and relationship in modern training”, where he emphasized emotional intelligence, media management and team cohesion. The day was rounded with practical sessions and another round of technical exchanges.

The last day he brought a prominent moment when the newly appointed chief coach of the Super Eagles, Eric Chelle, took the participants through a depth of immersion in “modernized training tactics and training of training.”

His session was interactive and with a vision of the future, providing the attendeing tactical ideas of elite football.

The workshop ended with a high note, and the participants left Ikenne inspired and better equipped to face the tactical demands of modern football.

The success of the event reinforces NPLCMA’s commitment to excellence and establishes a new reference point for Coaching Development Programs in Nigeria.
