Troops arrested 53 suspected criminals in Plateau

Nigerian Army troops have arrested 53 suspected criminals and members of extremist groups during coordinated operations in Plateau State.

The army said in an operational report that Operation Ensuring Peace (OPEP) troops carried out targeted attacks in Barkin Ladi and Jos North Local Government Areas of the state.

According to the report, OPEP Sector 4 troops raided suspected drug hideouts in Angwan Yama and Kasua, Barkin Ladi and arrested nine suspects who were in possession of a number of items suspected to be Cannabis sativa, mobile phones, power banks and other items.

“In separate raids at around 1.30am, Sector 1 troops, supported by Special Forces and the Department of State Services (DSS), arrested 44 suspected members of the Sara Suka group in various communities in Jos North, and recovered various dangerous weapons.

“Troops recovered four cattle stolen from Lugere Community, Riyom Local Government Area, and returned them to their owners, adding that efforts are on to arrest the thieves.

Troops responding to communal clashes and suspected militia attacks in Taraba and Benue states recovered two bodies and investigated incidents of armed confrontation.

“A civilian suffered gunshot wounds during clashes in Guma Local Government Area of ​​Benue State and was evacuated to hospital for medical treatment,” the report added.
