Troops foil drone attack, killing Boko Haram commander in North East

Operation Hadin Kai troops thwarted a complex drone-assisted attack during an intensive operation in the North East and killed several suspected Boko Haram insurgents.

Director of Defense Media Operations Maj. Gen. Michael Onoja disclosed this on Friday in Abuja while giving an update on military operations from March 13 to March 19.

Onoja said his troops repelled a major terrorist attack in Mallam Fatori, Abadam Local Government Area of ​​Borno and killed Boko Haram fighters, including its senior commanders.

He said follow-up exploitation operations managed to recover 74 bodies and a number of weapons, including 38 AK-47 rifles, three PKT machine guns and an RPG canister.

“Troops also foiled various infiltration attempts in Bama, Gujba and Kaga local government areas, while key logistics suppliers and informants were arrested.

“Coordinated air and ground operations also repelled attacks in Baga, Damboa, Buratai and Njimtilo, thereby reducing ISWAP capabilities,” the spokesperson said.

Onoja added that troops intercepted the suspected shooter in Taraba, and recovered ammunition, cash and a motorbike.

He reaffirmed the military’s commitment to maintaining pressure on terrorists and restoring stability in the region.

“In the North West, Operation Fansan Yamma troops recorded major breakthroughs in Zamfara, Katsina, Kaduna and Kebbi States, rescuing kidnapped victims and disrupting criminal networks.

” Troops neutralized terrorists in Shinkafi Local Government Area in Zamfara and recovered weapons and motorbikes.

“In Katsina State, soldiers rescued four kidnap victims, while in Kaduna, they thwarted the kidnapping of a cleric, forcing the attackers to flee,” he added.
