The captain of Super Eagles, William Troost-Ekong, has reaffirmed his desire to achieve national glory before calling at the time of his international career.
The experienced defender, who took Nigeria through official competitions and played in the best leagues in Europe, says that his greatest ambition continues to win the African Nations Cup and represent the country in another FIFA World Cup.
Despite approaching AFCon 2023, Troost-Ekong believes that his mission with the national team is far from being complete.
“I still want to win an AFCon. I want to play another World Cup. I have not finished yet,” he said.
The defender of Al Kholood, who scored in the final defeat of AFCon 2023 of Nigeria against Ivory Coast, added that people are more impressed and attracted to what he has done with the super eagles.
Troost-Ekong was part of Nigeria’s team in the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, where the Super Eagles were eliminated in the group stage after a late defeat against Argentina.
Now 31 years old, and with the 2026 edition potentially his final opportunity on the global stage, the defender is determined to help Nigeria ensure the qualification and return to the World Cup.
