The Trump administration has put two repeated objectives of President Donald Trump under criminal investigation, although the details on what are investigated exactly or to what extent the Department of Justice intends to take the probes are not clear.

The two objectives are the former CIA director John Brennan and the former FBI director James Comey, which Trump fired in his first term, according to a declaration that a spokesman for the Justice Department provided to journalists.
Fox News reported the existence of the investigations on Tuesday evening. After referring to Comey and Brennan, the spokesman said that the Department of Justice “does not comment on the investigations in progress”.
A lawyer for Comey had no comments. The FBI refused to comment.
Brennan, who is a paid collaborator at NBC News and Msnbc, appeared on “Deadline: White Casa” by Msnbc with Nicolle Wallace on Wednesday afternoon.
βIt is difficult to believe that we are 8 and a half years here [after the 2016 presidential election]We are still going to this land that has been, I believe, quite well and comprehensively plowed, “said Brennan. He continued to reiterate what he had previously said to the NBC News, which was not contacted by the Department of Justice or by the CIA on investigations.
But, he said, “I think this is, unfortunately, a very sad and tragic example of the continuous politicalization of the community of intelligence, of the national security process, and frankly, I am really shocked by the fact that, you know, individuals are willing to sacrifice their reputation, their credibility, their decency to continue making offers of Donald Trump on something that is clearly based.”
The Fox News article was published both the director of the FBI Kash Patel and the prosecutor General Pam Bondi are facing a remarkable reinforcement by the conservative media and influencers for the management of the investigation and material of Jeffrey Epstein.
This week, the Department of Justice and the FBI published a reminder that reiterated what the previous investigations had already found: that Epstein, a condemned sexual and sexual lens, killed himself in his prison cell in 2019 and that there was no incriminating evidence against unloaded third parties.
Before joining the government, Patel worked with conspiracy theories on Epstein, while a declaration of Bondi according to which an “list of customers” of Epstein was sitting on his desk fueled more speculation on the right. Bondi later said he was talking about documents related to Epstein, not to a real list.
As for Brennan, a source informed on the question said that the CIA director John Ratcliffe made a criminal reporter of Brennan at the Department of Justice. Exactly what pushed the investigation of Comey is not clear.
Last week Ratcliffe issued an internal revision of the CIA that criticized Brennan’s management of an evaluation of the 2017 intelligence which concluded that Russian President Vladimir Putin wanted to help Trump to defeat the democrat Hillary Clinton in the 2016 elections.
Any conduct took place during that campaign or even in most of the first term of Trump is now outside the typical statute of five years of limitations for federal crimes. Fox News article mentions the testimony that Brennan gave to the Chamber’s judicial committee in May 2023 on the so -called Steele dossier which was a problem during the 2016 campaign. It does not mention any specific conduct by Comey in the last five years.
A special consultant appointed by the then Prosecutor General William Barr has spent years investigating how the evaluation of the 2017 intelligence was put together, requesting many CIA officials to hire lawyers. That special consultant, John Durham, also used a great jury to examine Brennan’s actions, Comey and many who worked for them on how the FBI and the CIA managed the investigations on the effort of Russia to interfere in the 2016 elections. But Durham did not charge the two former leaders nor has he accused them of offenses. His only accusation against a public official came against a low -level FBI lawyer who had lied on a mandate question.
The Trump administration took measures against the people involved in the investigation into the president and his supporters. The Department of Justice has a “Working Group” which is examining these investigations and many who have worked on them and were still in the department have been fired.
