Trump considers Nigeria, another 35 countries for the travel ban

Donald Trump

The Trump administration is taking into consideration the implementation of travel restrictions on 36 other countries, including some of the main US partners such as Egypt and Djibouti, according to an internal reminder seen by the Washington Post.

The Memo, signed by the Secretary of State Marco Rubio and sent U.S. diplomats on Saturday, states that the governments of listed nations have 60 days to meet new requirements established by the State Department.

The State Department stated that some of the countries mentioned have not met various reference parameters, such as “no authority of the competent or cooperative central government” to provide reliable identity documents or a large number of citizens who have violated the terms of their visas.

However, the reminder included a warning: if a country is willing to accept citizens of the third country that are removed from the United States, it would attach other concerns.

The list of countries that could face restrictions on visas, travel prohibitions or other restrictions includes 25 countries in Africa: Angola, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cabo Verde, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Democratic Republic, Nigano, Nigere, Nigera, Nigeria, Nigeria, Nigeria, Nigeria, Nigeria, Nigeria, Nigeria, Nigeria, Nigeria, Nigeria, Nigeria, Nigeria, Nigeria, Nigeria, Nigeria, Nigeria, Nigeria, Nigeria, Nigeria, Nigeria, Nigeria. Several Caribbean nations are also on the list: Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Saint Kitts and Nevis and Saint Lucia.

There are also four countries in Asia listed: Bhutan, Cambogia, Kyrgyzstan and Syria; And three countries in Oceania: Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu.

These countries have until 8 on Wednesday to provide the State Department with an initial action plan to meet the new requirements.

A spokesman for the State Department did not comment on the in progress internal resolutions, but said that the department is always re -evaluating policies to ensure that Americans are safe and that foreign citizens respect the law.

The Independent asked the White House for a comment.

It is not clear whether travel restrictions will take effect after this deadline.

Reports on the new internal memo only come a week after Trump has revived his prohibition on the first term travel and announced a complete ban on entry into the United States from 12 countries and travel restrictions on seven others.

In January, Trump signed an executive order asking the State Department to identify the countries “for which verification and screening information is so lacking as to justify a partial or complete suspension” on the citizens of these countries.

These actions are part of the largest anti-immigration agenda of the President, including what has called the “largest mass deportation operation” in American history aimed at immigrants without documents and revocation visas and humanitarian protections for tens of thousands of immigrants.
