Trump delays Hormuz ultimatum after ‘productive’ talks with Iran

United States President Donald Trump has postponed military strikes on Iran’s power plants and energy infrastructure for five days following “productive conversations” with the country’s authorities.

He confirmed the postponement of the previous ultimatum to Truth Social on Monday.

Trump on Saturday threatened to attack Iran’s power plants if the Strait of Hormuz was not reopened within 48 hours.

In response, Tehran threatened to completely block the route and vowed retaliation against energy facilities and desalination plants in Gulf states with ties to the US, if the countries’ energy infrastructure was attacked.

“The United States, and the country of Iran, over the past two days, have had excellent and productive talks regarding a complete and total resolution of our hostilities in the Middle East.

“These talks will continue throughout this week,” said the US President.

The Strait of Hormuz has become a flashpoint in the current US-Israeli war with Iran.

Tehran has repeatedly attacked ships in the waterway, effectively blocking a key shipping route for global oil and gas supplies.
