Trump says Democratic rhetoric about me fueled assassination attempt on me

Former US President Donald Trump said yesterday that democratic rhetoric about him may have inspired a failed assassination attempt on him during a July campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Remember that Matthew Crooks shot Trump in the ear, wounded two bystanders and shot dead local father and firefighter Corey Comperatore.

Trump made the remarks during a presidential campaign debate with Vice President Kamala Harris at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia last night.

“I might get shot in the head because of the things they said about me. They talked about democracy. I am a threat to democracy. They are a threat to democracy,” he said.

“She’s the one who’s arming me, not me,” Trump said, referring to Harris. “She’s the one who’s arming me.”

Harris responded by saying, “Well, let’s talk about the extremes, and understand the context in which this 2024 election is taking place. The United States Supreme Court recently ruled that the former president would essentially be immune from any violations if he ever entered the White House again.

“Understand, this is someone who has openly said that he would end, I quote, the Constitution of the United States, that he would weaponize the Justice Department against his political enemies. Someone who has openly expressed his disdain for our military. Understand, that means if Donald Trump comes back to the White House there are no guardrails, because of course we know now the courts are not going to stop him,” Harris shot back at Trump.

Meanwhile, Trump repeated his claim that migrants arriving in the US after escaping prisons and mental health institutions would be deported if re-elected on November 5.

“There are millions of people pouring into our country from prisons and jails, from mental institutions and insane asylums,” Trump claimed.

Trump makes this claim frequently, and he frequently alleges that prisons and mental hospitals are being deliberately emptied to dump people into the US.

The debate marked the first time the two candidates faced each other, after President Joe Biden withdrew from the race amid growing concerns over his mental acuity.
