The interviews in Istanbul on Friday was the first direct meeting between Ukrainian and Russian delegations in more than three years

Donald Trump says that on Monday he will talk to the Russian leader Vladimir Putin on the end of the war in Ukraine, saying that the call would be “stopping the” bloodbath “”.

In a post on Truth Social, the President of the United States said that the call would take place at 10:00 EDT (14:00 GMT) and would then spoke with the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky and the leaders of some NATO countries.

Russia and Ukraine were unable to reach any turning point when they kept their first face to face in three years in Istanbul on Friday, although an exchange of prisoners was agreed.

The President of the United States had offered to participate in the talks in TΓΌrkiye if Putin had also gone, but the Russian president refused to accept the offer.

Trump’s comments come after suggesting progress in ending the war only if he and Putin had discussed face to face.

The Cremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed to the Russian news agencies that the preparations were underway for a call between Putin and Trump on Monday. The two leaders have already kept a phone call on the subject.

“The conversation is in progress,” Peskov said to Tass News Agency.

Trump had said on Truth Social: “We hope it will be a productive day, a fire will take place and this very violent war, a war that would never have had to happen, will end”.

NATO leaders asked Russia to agree on the 30 -day fire in the conflict.

US and Russian leaders are expected to discuss the fire, as well as the possible summit between them when they speak.

Moscow moved more slowly than Trump, but welcomed American efforts to mediation, in a call between the United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio and his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov.

Following the interviews in Istanbul on Friday, Ukraine also reiterated its request to cease complete and unconditional fire.

According to a Ukrainian official, the Kremlin had made “new and unacceptable requests, including the insistence of Kyiv to withdraw his troops from most of his territory,” he said, in exchange for a ceasefire.

The head of the Russian delegation, Putin Vladimir Medinsky’s assistant, said he was satisfied with the talks and ready to continue contacting.

Hours later, a Russian drone hit a passenger bus in the Sumy region, killing nine people – pushing Zelensky to ask for more rigid penalties in Moscow.

He said that the attack on the bus was “a deliberate killing of civilians”. Russia did not comment, but the state media reported that the forces had affected a “military putting area” in the province of Sumy.

Russia has launched a vast Ukraine scale in February 2022.
