Two killed, 20 others injured in Gombe Eid Stampede

At least two children died and 20 other people were injured in the invasion in Eid al -Fitr prayer in the Gombe state on Sunday.

Spokesman for the State Police Command, Buhari Abdullahi, said in a statement on Sunday that a tragic incident occurred at around 10:45 in the morning at the gate exit of Eid al -Fitr, immediately after the prayer ended.

According to Abdullahi, the invasion was triggered by density at the exit gate as a large crowd, especially women and children, rushed to leave the venue.

He said: “The situation, exacerbated by intense heat, causes an unfavorable incident.

“As many as 22 people were affected and were immediately taken to the nearest hospital for medical treatment.

“Unfortunately, two victims, a four -year -old boy and a six -month -old baby girl, were declared dead by a doctor while receiving treatment.”
