In a state in which sports training is still dominated to a large extent, coach Udo Nfoniso stands out for his dedication and passion for promoting young talents and creating opportunities for underrepresented players. His trip to football training is a call born for love, purpose and a implacable commitment to impact lives through sport.
Coach Udo’s trip to training was inspired by his love for football and the desire to contribute to his growth. However, its mission is deeper than only training players; It revolves around discovering the without exploiting potential, preparing young talents, especially girls and getting the best out of them.
“My career as a coach comes as a result of the love I have for sports,” he reflects. “It is not just about contributing to the growth of the game, but also being deeply rooted in my passion to prepare young talents, impact them and get the best of them.”
His training story began in the state of Gombe during his year of the National Youth Services Corps (NYSC) in 2019. It was there, for the first time he met the raw passion of the young women who dreamed of playing football, but lacked the platform and mentoring to succeed.
Instead of moving away, coach Udo took action. She started base training sessions for these girls, many of whom were stepping on a football field for the first time. That unique decision marked the beginning of a transformative trip for the girls who trained and for her.
With the understanding that the passion alone was not enough, the coach Udo did professional training to deepen his experience and provide a better guidance for his players. He obtained a diploma in soccer coaching from the prestigious National Sports Institute in Nigeria.
But she didn’t stop there.
Inspired by a hunger for continuous learning, he enrolled in several internationally recognized coaching courses and workshops, including:
