The management of the University of Ibadan (UI) has ordered students to leave campus for three weeks following recent protests against the increase in tuition fees.
Students began protests on Thursday following the university’s decision to increase tuition fees as approved by the Senate.
The Registrar of the institution, Mr. Ganiyu Saliu, gave the directive in a memo on Saturday in Ibadan.
Students are expected to return to campus on September 20.
Saliu said the decision to send the students home was taken at a meeting with student union leaders on Friday.
The registrar stressed that the break would give students enough time to complete their online registration.
