UNISFA acting HoM/FC praises Nigerian contingent

The Acting Head of Mission and Force Commander (HoM/FC) of the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA), Major General Benjamin Sawyer, has praised the contingent for its professionalism, unwavering dedication, and exemplary operational conduct in securing the Force Headquarters Camp (FHQ).

Sawyer spoke when he embarked on a visit to the Nigerian Contingent (NIGCON 1) Camp on September 7th and 8th, 2023, to spend a day with the peacekeepers.

During his visit, Colonel James Nkereuwem, the Contingent Commander, provided Major General Sawyer with a comprehensive briefing on the unit’s activities and accomplishments since their deployment to the mission area.

Major General Sawyer, in his remarks, praised the contingent for their professionalism, unwavering dedication, and exemplary operational conduct in securing the Force Headquarters Camp (FHQ).

He also commended Colonel James Nkereuwem for his purposeful and forward-thinking leadership, which successfully addressed and resolved issues related to theft within the FHQ Camp.

Furthermore, the Acting HoM/FC expressed his admiration for the discipline exhibited by the troops and their outstanding representation of the Nigerian Army in Peace Support Operations.

The Acting HoM/FC also conveyed his satisfaction with the camp’s infrastructure and its impeccable maintenance, recognizing the Contingent Commander’s efforts in creating a conducive living environment for the peacekeepers.

The visit’s highlights included interactive sessions with the troops, the presentation of souvenirs, and a tree-planting ceremony conducted by the Acting HoM/FC to commemorate this significant occasion.
