Ubah, the incumbent senator for Anambra South District, has died in London at the age of 52.

A correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), who visited the senator’s home at Umuanuka, Otolo village in Nnewi, said the giant gates leading to the huge compound were locked.

NAN further reports that there was heavy security in the area.

Some of his staff members were seen discussing in a group and lamenting the sad news.

One of the staff members, a young Nnewi man, who preferred anonymity, said the community had lost one of its dearest sons.

He said Ubah is a pillar of support for the youth in the community through his commitment and philanthropic activities.

“His death is still a shock to us. He was our pillar,” she said.

A motorcyclist who identified himself simply as Obinna said Ubah’s death was a huge blow to the community, despite the safety and peace it had enjoyed for years.

Obinna said Ubah managed to protect Nnewi from insecurity in Southern Anambra by employing, equipping and paying local vigilance officers in the area.

“He made our life comfortable in Nnewi. He took our safety as a priority,” he said. (NAN)
