The number of all senators of the progressive congress in the national assembly swelling at 70.

The development crystallized on Wednesday after the decamping of four senators from the Democratic Party of the people of the opposition to the All Progressives Congress.

The senators – Francis Fadahunsi (Osun East), Oluwole Olubiyi (Osun Central), Aniekan Bassey (Akwa Ibom North East) and Ekong Samson (Akwa Ibom South) – announced their exit from the PDP during the Plenal.

Their resignation letters were read on the floor of the Senate by the President of the Senate Godswill Akpabio, who directed the Senate’s employee to officially record the decamping.

With the last Switch, the composition of the tenth Senate is now following: APC 70, PDP 28, Labor 5 party 5, New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) 1, Social Democratic Party (SDP) 2 and All Progressives Grand Alliance (Apga) 1.

The Decampments were testified by the best officials of the APC, including the national secretary of the party, the senator Ajibola Basiru, the former minister of work and productivity Senator Chris Ngige and some members of the Chamber of Representatives who were present in solidarity.

Observers believe that development is a serious political disturbance for the PDP, in particular in the state of Akwa Ibom, historically considered the party stronghold.

On the contrary, the APC should consolidate further control in the region.

In his resignation letter, Senator Aniekan Bassey invoked the sections 40 and 68 (1) (g) of the Nigerian Constitution and said that his defection was “deeply considered” and “imperative”.

“This decision has become imperative in view of the prevalent political developments both in my electoral college and within the party structure, which was fractured beyond redemption,” he wrote.

Bassey recognized the PDP for the platform he had provided, but stressed that his move was in the general interest of his voters in Akwa Ibom North East.

Reacting to the Decampments, the president of the Senate Akpabio, a former governor of Akwa Ibom and leader of the APC figure, has accepted Bassey dramatically.

“Senator Aniekan Abasi has now joined the APC.

Senator Samson Ekong also defended his decision, connecting it to political shifts in Akwa Ibom.

“Politics is a game of interest and if I can add circumstances,” he said.

“In the state of Akwa Ibom, the earth has moved with the convergence of the main political actors on the APC platform. My people have great hopes for reward systems commensurate with the APC power matrix,” he said.

Ekong further cited the defection of the governor of Akwa Ibom Pastore Umoh Eno at the APC and the mass alignment of the parties concerned political in the state with the party in power as key motivators.

By welcoming the deserters, the leader of the Senate Opeyemi Bamidele said: “I honestly welcome our colleagues at the ALL PROGRESSIVE Congress. This cannot be the end, others are coming”.
