A Judge of the United States District Court has ordered the Federal Investigation Bureau (FBI) and Narcotics Enforcement Administration (DEA) to reveal documents related to criminal investigations on President Nigeria Bola Tinubu and alleged drug trade.
Judge Beryl Howell from the Columbia District Court, in April 8’s decision, directed these bodies to find and process not free notes related to the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requested those submitted by American researcher Aaron Greenspan.
Greenspan has submitted 12 FOIA requests between 2022 and 2023, looking for information related to Chicago-based drug rings in the early 1990s, and in particular, notes about Tinubu, Lee Andrew Edwards, Mueez Abegboyega Akande, and Abiodun Agbele.
Initially, both the FBI and DEA responded with a “glomar response,” which showed that they could not confirm or deny the existence of the note. However, the court has now determined that these responses are not appropriate in this case, and have mandated that these institutions continue with the search and release of relevant and unleashed information.

The court’s decision stated: “The FBI and DEA both officially confirm the Tinubu investigation relating to the drug trading ring. Any privacy interests involved by the Request of FOIA to the FBI and DEA for records about Tinubu which are overcome by the public interest that can be submitted to the privacy. Since the FBI and DEA do not provide information that can be overcome with tinubation that cannot be overcome by information about privacy.
While upholding the Glomar CIA response, the judge decided, “The Plaintiff has the right to a summary of the decision regarding each of the four Glomar responses confirmed by the defendant FBI and DEA, while the defendant’s CIA is entitled to a summary of the assessment. Because the Glomar Response is confirmed appropriately. In this case.
