US imposes sanctions on UAE shipping company transporting Iranian fuel

The United States has imposed sanctions on three United Arab Emirates (UAE) shipping companies involved in Iran’s petroleum and petrochemical trade.

The State Department also identified 11 vessels transporting petroleum products or petrochemicals as blocked property.

The companies targeted are Sea Route Ship Management FZE, Almanac Ship Management LLC, and Al Anchor Ship Management FZE.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken confirmed the development in a statement on Friday in Washington.

He said Washington remained committed to not allowing Iran to obtain a nuclear weapon, and was prepared to use all elements of national power to ensure that outcome.

“Iran’s actions to increase its enrichment capacity have more to do with Iran’s continued failure to cooperate with the IAEA and statements by Iranian officials indicating potential changes to Iran’s nuclear doctrine,” Blinken said.

Over the past month, Iran has announced steps to expand its nuclear program in ways that serve no credible peaceful purpose.

G7 leaders earlier this month called on Iran to halt the escalation of its nuclear program.
