The United States will withdraw from the UN education, scientific and cultural organization (UNESCO) at the end of 2026.
The US rejoined the UN Cultural Agency in 2023.
President Donald Trump first withdrew the US from the agency during his first term of office in 2018, before the country rejected the government of former President Joe Biden two years ago.
Spokesman for the Department of Foreign Affairs, Tammy Bruce, confirmed the news in a statement on Tuesday in Washington.
He said: “Today, the United States told the Director General Audrey Azoulay about the United States decision to withdraw from UNESCO.
“Sustainable involvement at UNESCO is not for the national interest of the United States.”
Trump ordered a review of the involvement and funding of the country at the United Nations in early February, only a few days after serving for the second term.

At that time, the President said the UN had “extraordinary potential” but “it was not carried out well.”
UNESCO is assigned to promote cooperation in all of these sectors and is famous for its world’s inheritance list, which includes recognized sites for cultural, historical or natural significant significance.
In the statement, the Department of Foreign Affairs accused the organization of working “to advance social and cultural goals that divided and maintain a huge focus on the objectives of the United Nations sustainable development, a global ideological agenda for international development that was contrary to our American first foreign policy.”
