Us US Cancels Visa of the Nobel Peace Prize Oscar Arias

Oscar Arias held a press conference in which he told journalists that his visa had been revoked

A former president of Costa Rica, Oscar Arias, says that his American visa has been revoked.

Arias, a Nobel prize, said he was informed of the weeks decision after publicly criticizing Donald Trump, comparing the behavior of the President of the United States with that of a Roman emperor.

The 84 -year -old, who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his role in brokering for the end of conflicts in Central America, said that the US authorities did not give any explanation.

Arias has left, however, that it could be due to its rapprochement with China during the period in which she was president from 2006 to 2010.

Speaking at a press conference in the Costarican capital, San José, Arias said he had no “idea” what the reason for the cancellation was.

He said he received an “concise” email of “of some lines” from the government of the United States that informed him of the decision.

He added that he thought he was not President Trump but the United States Department of State, who had made the decision.

While he said it would be a conjecture for his part speculating on the reason behind the revocation of the visa, he stressed that “I established diplomatic relations with China.

“This, of course, is known all over the world,” he told journalists his 2007 decision to cut ties with Taiwan and establish them instead with China.

The Trump administration tried to oppose the influence of China in the western hemisphere and accused a series of Central American governments of which they turned to the Chinese government and Chinese companies.

However, he claimed the current Costa Rodrigo Chaves President, praising his decision to exclude Chinese companies from participating in the development of 5G in Costa Rica.

But this perceived closeness between President Chaves and the United States was criticized by Arias, who wrote a post on social media in February saying that “has never been easy for a small town in disagreement with the United States government, less when its president behaves like a Roman emperor, telling the rest of the world what to do”.

He added that “during my governments, Costa Rica has never received orders from Washington as if we were a banana republic”.

Arias is not the only Costa Room to have revoked the visa in the United States. Three members of the country’s national assembly who opposed the decree of President Chaves to exclude Chinese companies from participation in the development of 5G have also canceled theirs. [BBC]
