Uwais made an important contribution to making Nigerian democracy stronger – Buhari

Former President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed sadness over the death of former Nigerian Chief Justice, Judge Mohammed Uwais.

Uwais, who served as CJN of the country from 1995 to retirement in 2006, died on Friday at the age of 89.

He died only 24 hours after the former Minister of State, Prof. Jubril Aminu, died.

In a statement issued by his aide, Garba Shaehu, the former president remembered that Uwais made an important contribution in bringing justice closer to people as CJN Nigeria.

Buhari said: “He was admired for his compassion and justice. He made an important contribution to making Nigeria’s democratic fabrics stronger.

“He will always be remembered by many people because of his emphasis on a careful approach to the law as a judge and a member of the State Council.

“I expressed his sincere condolences to their family members, relatives, and friends who mourn them like all of us.”
