Waec plans to fully adopt WASSCE based on computer by 2026 …

The Council of West Africa exams, WaEC, has reaffirmed the plans to migrate the examination of the Senior School of West Africa, Wassce, testing on computers, CBT, by 2026.

The head of the national office, dr. Amos Dangut, he held the certainty Tuesday in Abuja during a raising awareness meeting with the members of the Education Committee of the National Assembly.

He observed that the transition, which began with private candidates in 2024, had recorded “significant progress” and would have been reduced nationally.

Dangut explained that fake sessions and online practice platforms would be introduced to help candidates to familiarize himself with the system, stressing that no student would have been left behind.

“We have already conducted five exams, one for private candidates and one for school candidates and, by 2026, the deployment will be enormous,” he said.

On the concern of infrastructure and computer risks, Dangut has ensured to the interested parties that Waec had led exams in areas difficult to reach without interruption.

He added that the performance of the candidates in the CBT had been “empirically better” than paper -based tests.

The Senate and the Chamber of Representatives promised full support for the launch. Senator Ekong Samson, vice -president of the Senate Committee for basic and secondary education, said that Parliament would have worked to increase the allocation of the financial statements to education.

In the same way, Rep. Oboku OFORJI urged Waec to establish at least one CBT center in each of the 774 areas of the local government of Nigeria before the expiry of 2026.

The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, described the migration as a “historical step” that aligns with the reforms in progress in tools of curriculum, infrastructure and digital learning.

“With Waec driving this transition, we are confident that the results of the credibility and merit of our exams will be further guaranteed,” he said.
