The northern group coalition (CNG) has condemned a new wave of violence in the highlands where more than 100 people were killed in one week by the alleged Fulani militia in the local government of Bokkos and Bassa, describing the murder as “national disgrace and a clear failure of government.”
The coalition, in a press release on Thursday signed by its national coordinator, Jamilu Aliyu Chapananchi, expressed anger over the murder and transfer of thousands by robbers, and asked the authorities and security agents to arrest the criminals and bring them to order.
In a statement that is full of emotions, Charnangi says it hurts that people in the state will continue to suffer and bury their children and small women every time the bandits attack.
“We are tired of burying our children, mothers, and elders while the government is looking in another direction. Plateau’s suffering is Nigeria’s shame,” Chaapanchi said.
The group insisted that the massacre was a reflection of government failure.
“This new massacre is in the highlands, where more than 100 lives are cut brutally, representing strange failure of governance.
“This murder is not isolated. They form part of a broader pattern of insecurity which includes Boko Haram terrorism in northeast, bandits in the northwest, and ethno-religious violence in the north-middle.”
The group also accused the Nigerian government of not acting and demanding “urgent and determining steps to stop bloodshed,” while calling for direct distribution of security personnel to be strengthened to the flame point throughout the highlands and other northern regions that faced similar threats.
CNG also condemned the foreign journey of President Tinubu Bola during the crisis, equating the actions of the President with “Nero talked about when Roma was on fire.”
“The warm response of the government has ventured. If the government cannot protect its people, it does not have legitimacy.
“We demand brutal efficiency in dismantling the terror network, capturing and demanding their attackers and sponsors, and overhaul the framework of state security.
“CNG urges the military to launch a sustainable attack on groups of violence in Plateau, Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina, and North citizens. Citizens are bored with condolences empty and must begin to see tangible results. The future of Nigeria, the group said, depends on ending the cycle of violence,” added the group.
