Why Chukwueze played so well against us: Guardiola explains Manchester City’s defeat to AC Milan

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has provided the context against which Nigerian international winger Samuel Chukwueze produced a spectacular performance for AC Milan in their 3-2 win over his side in a pre-season match. GolNigeria.com own reports.

Chukwueze delivered two very good balls from the right to set up Lorenzo Colombo for his brace in what was arguably a very good performance for Paulo Fonseca’s team.

Fonseca, who replaced Stefano Pioli weeks after the end of last season, was pleased with his side’s performance but the same could not be said of his Manchester City counterpart, who pointed out the difference in the tie.

He began by saying: “We were better than in the first match and some players took a step forward.

“Overall it was very good, everyone was very good against a veteran Champions League team like AC Milan.

“It was a step forward, no injuries, minutes in the legs, another test and now we fly to another match in a few days.”

Guardiola, while reacting to the manner in which his side conceded two goals from Chukwueze through balls, similarly lamented the absence of his senior defenders who would likely have made the difference: “I would have preferred to bring Kevin De Bruyne, John Stones, Kyle Walker, all the lads that people are waiting for but the schedule is the schedule and it wouldn’t be possible for them to come here.”

Goodbye Emmanuel
