Why should I not contest the 2027 elections – Ortom

Former Governor of Benue State, Chief Samuel Ortom, said on Tuesday that God has instructed him not to contest any election in 2027.

Ortom stated this when members of the G-14 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) paid a courtesy visit to Makurdi.

The G-14 members are PDP chairmen in the 14 Tiv-speaking local government areas of Benue State.

The former governor said he had no choice but to respect God’s wishes.

Ortom added that he failed to consult God before the 2023 elections so he lost.

He emphasized that the PDP is determined to regain power in Benue State in 2027.

“I did not participate in the 2027 elections. I know why I lost the 2023 elections. I did not consult God. My people bought the form for me, and I accepted it without consulting God.

“God has revealed everything to me. He had asked me to wait for him,” he said.

Ortom argued that he had made great sacrifices, including abandoning his family and friends at one point for the sake of state affairs while in office.

The former governor promised to support the party, adding that no one’s ambitions should outweigh the party’s interests.

“As the party leader in the state, I do not have the authority to disband the group. So no one can disband this group.

“G-14 is a forum for PDP elders in Benue. “If something happens, I have to know first because I am the leader,” said the former governor.
