Lazio midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru has given his thoughts on the Super Eagles’ 0-0 draw against Rwanda in their second Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Kigali today.
Fisayo started today’s match after coming on as a substitute in Saturday’s 3-0 win over Benin Republic, but unlike at the weekend, he failed to open the scoring despite creating the most chances and having as many as nine shots on target.
Explaining the Super Eagles’ new No.10, he attributed the result to their failure to convert the numerous opportunities that came their way but said it was better that they picked a point and did not concede.
“I think we played well and of course it’s going to be difficult to play them away from home because they have their fans cheering them on and of course there are all sorts of circumstances we have to consider,” he said in an interview with Pius Idoko made available to OwnGoalNigeria.com editorial team.
“All things considered, we played very well and had many chances that we couldn’t convert and that’s why I think the match ended 0-0.
“We can take something positive from this. We didn’t concede a goal and got a point in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. It’s not the result we wanted, but it’s not a bad result.”
“Yeah, we talked about it a bit after the game. I’m not sure why it didn’t go in. It’s just that sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you don’t, and today was one of those days where everything we threw at them didn’t go in, so like I said, it’s important that we didn’t lose the game and that we didn’t concede any goals.”
