Federal Capital Region Minister (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has accused former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Senate President David Markus of trying to disrupt the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for personal gain.
Wike made a claim during his monthly media chat on Thursday, accusing that the two men tried to manipulate the party’s national leadership in accordance with their interests but were unsuccessful.
“There is nothing Atiku and his allies do not do to take over the PDP national leadership. We stand firm and say that will not happen,” Wike said.
He further accused that after failing to secure control over the leadership and position of the party secretary, Atiku and his camp distract them to form a coalition.
Wike questioned the credentials of Atiku’s leadership, showing that key figures from their geopolitical zones, including the Governor of the State Adamawa and Bauchi, did not support their political ambitions.
“He is from Adamawa. Why didn’t the governor join him? Why didn’t Bala [Governor of Bauchi State] Join Him? We say we will not allow you to continue playing your old game, “said Wike.
He also distanced himself from this new criticism regarding the emergence of Samuel Anyanwu as the National Secretary of the Party, which stated that Anyanwu was elected during the party’s national convention and was not appointed at his wisdom.

“The same person mentioned my name, Wike, Wike, am I the one who chose Anyanwu? He was chosen during the national convention,” he said.
Minister FCT criticized Atiku’s political path, describing many party defeats as inconsistent and inappropriate from an older statesman.
“Atiku was the vice president for eight years. He left in 2002 to join the Action Congress (AC), then moved to the Congress of All Progressive (APC), and now the African Democratic Congress (ADC). What exactly will he say to the younger generation?”
Referring to Atiku and his allies as “Buccaneers and Vampires,” Wike accused that they were never truly the best interests of the party.
He concluded by stating that PDP had been maintained mostly through the commitment of stakeholders in the southern-south and southeast regions since 1999.
“Since 1999, PDP has been alive by the south-southeast and southeast, because of the types of politics played in these zones,” he said.
