Wike approves the revocation of 4,794 land securities for the non -payment of the rent on the ground

Minister Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, approved the revocation of 4,794 land titles for the non -payment of the rent on the ground for more than 40 years.

In the central area, Garki I and II, Wuse I and II, Asakoro, Maitama and Guzape, a total of 8,375 owners owners have not paid the rent on the ground in the last 43 years.

This was announced in a press briefing by the special assistant of the Minister for Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, and the director of the lands of the lands of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), Chijioke Nwankwoeze.

“It should be noted that the FCTA has published numerous publications in the national newspapers and the ads in the transmission media since 2023, asking the defaulting to pay all the outstanding invoices and land rents. All of these have produced little response, since several upsids have not been able to pay.

“It is important to say that the payment of the rent on the ground on land property in the FCT is based on the existing legislation. It is foreseen in the terms and in the conditions of the granting of the right to employment, and is due for the payment on the first day of January, every year, without a question.

“Consequently, a list of land securities in charge of payment of the rent on the ground was completed in the ten most ancient districts of phase 1 of the federal capital (FCC). I am; Central Area District (Cadastral Zone A00), Garki I (Cadastral Zone A01), Wuse I (Cadastral Zone A02), Garki II (Cadastral Zone A03), ASOKORO (Cadastral Zone A04), Maitama (Cadastral Zone A05), Maitama (Cadastral Zone A06), Wuse II (Cadastral Zone A07), Wuse). “At the end of 2024 and to date, a total of N6.967.980.119 is due as rent on the ground of 8,375 owners of properties. In other words, a total of 8,375 property owners did not pay the rent on the ground until last year, 2024.

“A total of 4,794 land titles are defaulting for the payment of the rent on the ground for 10 years and beyond. This means that in the districts listed, 4,794 owners of property have not paid the rent on the ground in the last 10 years.

“This is in violation of the terms and conditions of the granting of employment rights, in line with the provisions of section 28, subsections 5 (a) and (b) of the law on the use of soil.

“As a result, the default ownership securities of payment of the rent on the ground for 10 years and beyond have been revoked immediately.

“A 21 -day grace is also given to the owners of default securities to the payment of the rent on the ground for one and ten years, after which the interested parties will be revoked.”
