A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) backed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Tuesday elected Mr Muka Popoola as chairman of the party in Lagos State.
Popoola and 38 others emerged by consensus at the State Electoral Congress held in Ikeja.
The selection of committee members is confirmed through a vote by the delegates
A PDP faction led by Kabiru Turaki on February 27 inaugurated the new state, local government and district executive committees in the state.
The National Working Committee (NWC), which is a faction supported by Wike, is led by Alhaji Abdulrahman Mohammed as National Chairman, and Senator Samuel Anyanwu serves as National Secretary.
In his speech, the Chairman of the congress supported by Wike, Mr. Olalekan Rotimi, praised the delegates for their peaceful actions.
He said implementing consensus to select leaders would strengthen party unity.
Rotimi said: “From the kind of organization we see here, you have made our job easier.

“This is basically just a family matter in accordance with the new election guidelines and the election law as amended.
“By unanimity and consensus, everyone has agreed on who should lead the state executive council.”
Other members of the state executive committee who emerged through consensus include Mr Kayode Ogunbiyi (Deputy Chairman), Disu Omotola (Secretary), Alhaja Kehinde Olojede (Women Leader), Olalekan Odufolakun (Youth Leader), and Dr Phillips Adebiyi (Publicity Secretary).
Others are Mr Hakeem Olalemi (Organizing Secretary), Morgan Onyeoma (Financial Secretary), Kate Onyechere (Treasurer), Desmond Agbo (Legal Advisor) and Alhaji Adio Salami (State Auditor).
Also elected were Alhaji Fatai Adele (Western State Deputy Chairman), Chief Adekogbe Taiwo (Eastern State Deputy Chairman), and Soji Orioye (Central State Deputy Chairman).
