Federal Capital Region Minister (FCT), Nyesom Wike, said on Monday that he would not fight for the 2027 presidential election.
Wike, a former Governor of Rivers State, said that this was during his monthly media chat in Abuja.
He explained that his decision was based on loyalty to the President of Bola Tinubu, who appointed him to the office, even though the Democratic Party (PDP) controlled his president’s ticket to the south.
Wike said: “I will not run away. I have integrity, I have a character. It is impossible for my appointer to be there, and we say he must run away, and then I turn around and say I have to run away.”
The minister emphasized that his attitude was a matter of principle rather than political calculation.
He stated that PDP would not survive without its commitment to the party, noting that internal divisions causing greater threats to the parties -opposition parties than external challenges.

“If we don’t like PDP, now you won’t hear that name,” he said.
“One thing that is not understood by people is if you have a problem, do not continue to give yourself more problems. There is no opposition party that can survive when they have a serious crisis. The task of the opposition party is to solve their problems, not worsen them through arrogance or impunity.”
