Mrs Igiebor, the woman who went viral for tearing up her husbandβs passport at Lagos Airport, has spoken out about the reason behind her action. In a video posted on Monday, she revealed that the couple had been having family problems long before they returned to Nigeria from Europe.
βThis has been going on for a long time. And I have to do what I have done. Donβt just look at my actions. I am not a crazy woman. I have been through a lot. I have my reasons,β she said.
Igiebor, a content creator and mother of three, explained that she suffered in silence and felt neglected by her husband, whom she described as βthe best son to his mother, his sisters and his brothers.β
“My husband is a son to my mother, sister and brother. Making me a wife who has to suffer. I do what I do so that he knows that I have endured pain,” she said.
She claims that her husband has prioritized his family over her and their children, which has left her feeling hurt and frustrated.

βI suffered with him, and just like that, his family wanted my suffering to end. Honestly, I did it so that my husband wouldnβt go back (to Europe). I went through suffering. Many donβt know what I went through. My husband bought me an iPhone to calm me down. It went on for years. He knows that I havenβt forgotten him; I just pretended to have gotten over it,β she added.
The woman apologized to Nigerians who were outraged by her actions and to Nigerian immigration authorities, saying she acted out of desperation to stop her husband from leaving her.
“Those of you who are demanding my arrest should come and hold me accountable. I cry every time I have three children. They should let me reap what I sow with him. My husband should come out and say what happened,” she said.
While Igiebor did not provide specific details about the events that led to the destruction of the passports, she stressed that her actions were not those of a βmad womanβ and that she had her reasons.
It would be recalled that the Nigerian Immigration Service has launched an investigation into the incident, citing possible violation of Section 10(b) of the Immigration Act, 2015 (as amended), which prohibits the wilful destruction of Nigerian travel documents. The service stressed its commitment to enforcing the Immigration Act in order to safeguard national security and maintain the integrity of Nigeriaβs legal and diplomatic instruments.
