Yahaya Bello: the Court updates the alleged case of money recycling to October 8th

On Wednesday, the high court of the territory of the federal capital started the hearing in the alleged case of money laundering presented by the Commission for economic and financial crimes (EFCC) against the immediate past governor of the State of Kogi, Yahaya Bello and two others, at 8, 9 October and 13 November 13, 13, 2025.

The new dates have been set for the continuation of hearing.

At the hearing taken up, the second witness of the accusation, PW2, told the Court that he had no relations with the three defendants during transactions on the property in question.

The witness, Segun Adeleke, an Efab Property Limited manager, said he did not know any of the three defendants when he was asked to confirm whether the names of the defendants appeared on any of the transaction documents.

“This is the first time that I see his excellence (Yahaya Bello) in person, even if I have already seen it on average and electronic media but not in any transaction,” he said.

The first witness of the accusation, PW1, Fabian Nwera, previously confirmed to the Court that none of the three defendants paid money on his company’s account, Efab Property Limited.

Nwora, who is the CEO of the company, said he met the former governor but claimed that his name was not present in the transaction to which it is referred to.

He said he opened the negotiations on said ownership but that the negotiations were concluded by Segun Adeleke, who is the second witness of the FCC (PW2).

Nwora, in a previous hearing, had witnessed that he had been invited to the FCC on February 8, 2023, about a transaction between the ownership of Shehu Bello and Efab on a property located in the Ikogosi street at number 1, Maitama, noting that it was the said Shehu who approached him for the property.

Adeleke, the PW2, while he was examined by the judicial consultant, Kemi Pinheiro, San, reiterated that, in 2020, his president, Nwora, gave him the brief of the property, to which Shehu Bello showed interest.

He said the agreement was concluded and N500 million paid for said property.

When the accusation lawyer asked what happened later, the witness said that Shehu Bello returned to their office, with the agreement, to tell its president that he was no longer interested in the property following the investigations of the FCC.

“My president said he would return after consulting our company secretary,” he said.

The AFCC lawyer also asked for some documents released to a Nuhu Muhammed compared to a property in the Gwarinpa area of the Federal Capital territory.

The witness confirmed that the documents were issued to the said Nuhu Muhammed after purchasing one of the united bungalows units.

The defender councilor, Joseph Daudu, San, raised an objection, saying: “My Lord, there is a clear disconnection between the documents they tried to be offered and the foundation thrown by the witness himself”.

The accusation, however, said that the objection was wrong and was subsequently canceled by the judge.

Despite being crossed by the defender, the witness confirmed that he had testified a test similar to the Federal Court before the judge Emeka Nwite.

He admitted that he had been brought to the transaction after the start of the processing, that he did not start it.

Daudu, San, told the witness that, while providing evidence before the judge Nwite, he said that the funds for the aforementioned property of Gwarinpa had been transferred immediately.

He added that he had now contradicted himself before judge Anenih saying that he was done in two tranches.

The witness said he was in two tranches and that he had entered, but later he admitted that he did not know the Nuhu Muhammad.

Another witness, on the quote, Mrs. Williams Abimbola, took the statement of the Kogi State Government House, together with the identification certificate.

Defense advice said they would talk about the document appropriately during the trial.

Judge Maryann Annih suspended the case at 8, 9 October and 13 November 2025, for the continuation of the hearing.
