Yamal makes history at Euros as Spain advance to final and France bounce back

Yamine Yamal has broken a European Championship record after scoring a thrilling goal to help Spain beat France in the Euro semi-finals.

The Barcelona star, who has now become the youngest player to play in the European Championship, is now also the youngest scorer in the competition’s history.

The previous youngest player at the Euros was Poland’s Kacper Kozlowski – 17 years and 246 days – in a 1-1 group stage draw against Spain in June 2021.

The 16-year-old Yamal, who turns 17 on Saturday, scored a superb equaliser against France in the match as Spain came from behind to win 2-1.

After Randal Kolo Muani headed in Kylian Mbappe’s cross to put France ahead, Yamal curled in a shot from outside the box to level.

Within four minutes, Spain had scored again through Dani Olmo, whose shot was kept out by French defender Jules Kounde.

Olivier Jiroud came on as a substitute and played alongside Mbappe, who also missed a couple of chances.

Spain will now face either England or the Netherlands in Sunday’s final.
