You are champions beyond limits!’ SSA Adeboye celebrates Para athletes at colorful opening of National Para Games

The opening ceremony of the 3rd National Paralympic Games came to life in grand style at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, in the presence of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Grassroots Sports Development, Hon. Adeyinka Anthony Adeboye joined top dignitaries to celebrate Nigeria’s greatest para-athletes in a vibrant and inspiring atmosphere.

The ceremony, which was attended by prominent figures including Presidential Spokesperson and former Sports Minister Sunday Dare as well as leaders of the National Sports Commission – President Mallam Shehu Dikko and Director General Hon. Bukola Olopade—was marked by colorful displays, cultural performances and a strong display of unity.

Adeboye, who was present at the event, described the occasion as a celebration of courage, resilience and limitless potential of Nigerian athletes.

“Today is not just about sports; it is about celebrating courage, resilience and the human spirit. These athletes have shown that there are no limits to what can be achieved with determination and faith.”

The presidential aide praised the athletes for their strength and perseverance and noted that their stories continue to inspire millions across the country.

“You are champions without limits. Your career is a source of inspiration for all Nigerians and you have shown that ability is much greater than any disability.”

The stadium was filled with excitement as athletes from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory marched, showing unity and national pride. The event featured vibrant cultural performances and enthusiastic applause from spectators, creating a truly memorable opening.

Adeboye commended the Federal Government and the National Sports Commission for their continued commitment to the inclusion and development of parasports in Nigeria.

“I must congratulate the Federal Government and the leadership of the National Sports Commission for creating this platform.
“This is how we build a truly inclusive sports system where every talent is recognized and given the opportunity to shine.”

He emphasized that the National Para Games serve not only as competition but also as a platform for national empowerment and integration.

“These Games are more than a competition: they are a statement that every Nigerian matters. They show that sports can unite us, empower us and give everyone a sense of belonging.”
Adeboye also encouraged the athletes to compete with pride and continue to represent Nigeria with excellence.

“As you compete, remember that you carry the hopes of a nation. Continue to do your best, continue to inspire and continue to make Nigeria proud.”

The third National Para Games, which will be held from March 26 to April 3, 2026, feature more than 3,000 athletes competing in 15 different sports, making it one of the largest para-sports gatherings in the country’s history.

For Adeboye, the opening ceremony was not only colourful: it was a powerful reminder that true strength lies in resilience and that true greatness knows no limits.
