You are dead after the helicopters crashed into the Hudson River in New York

Six people, including three children, were killed after a tourist helicopter crashed into the Hudson River in New York, Thursday, the authorities said.

Three children and three adults were aboard the helicopter at the time of the accident.

Five of the people on board were Spanish tourists and the sixth person was the pilot, the mayor of New York City Eric Adams told journalists.

The first calls of the accident arrived around 15:17 EDT (20:17 GMT) and the rescue boats were launched immediately, the officials said.

The New York police commissioner Jessica Tisch said that the identities of the victims will not be released until families are informed. The cause of the accident is under investigation.

The part of the river where the helicopter crashed is located near the west side of Manhattan.

The surrounding area is a neighborhood called West Village, a trendy area known for its shops and restaurants, also near the main New York University campus.

Video movies published on social media seem to show the helicopter that falls from the sky upside down and splashes in the Hudson river.

The New York Fire Commissioner Robert Tucker says that the rescue boats were launched immediately after receiving an emergency call.

“The swimmers were in water shortly after the call,” he said.

Once on the scene, the officials started looking for the surviving victims in the water and have started immediate life -saving measures, but efforts were not successful.

Four victims were declared death on stage, the other two victims were declared death in a hospital in the area, the officials said in a press conference a few hours after the accident.

A BBC journalist who was at the top of the World Trade Center at the time of the accident said there were about a dozen boats surrounding the accident site.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said that the investigations on the collapse of the Bell 206, a two -blade helicopter, would be led by the National Transportation Safety Board.
