Zamfara Gov regretted the loss of solid mineral revenue, private sector investment for recovery

The Governor of Dauda Older from the state of Zamfara has condemned the lack of income generated from the vast state -dense mineral deposit, describing the situation as very unfortunate given the state’s natural wealth.

Speaking on Wednesday during an interview at Channels Television Politics Today, the Lawal Governor highlighted that regardless of the Zamfara mineral -rich landscape, the current state did not get anything from this sector.

“As we are talking about now, there is no one -income, as far as it comes to dense minerals, which will come to the state of Zamfara, which is very unfortunate,” he said.

His statement arose after the federal government’s decision was recently to revoke the solid mineral ban, a step described by the Governor as an opportunity on time to attract an urgent investment. He revealed that last month, his government began discussions with private investors who showed interest to develop Zamfara dense minerals in collaboration with the state and federal governments.

“That’s exactly what we are doing now, to bring the private sector to invest in the solid mineral sector,” said Governor Lawal. “If it works well, that means additional income for the state of Zamfara and the Federal Government.”

The Lawal Governor stated optimism that with the right investment and policy framework, Zamfara could achieve financial independence from the monthly allocation of the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC).

“When we do that, I don’t think we will rely on FAAC again. We will be more comfortable to develop the state of Zamfara and advance the state,” he said.

In addition to economic reform, the governor discusses the security situation that has infected the country for years. He noted that his government had made a significant step in increasing security, especially through the formation of community protection guards in all regions of the local government. This locally trained guard, he explained, worked together with conventional security institutions to fight bandits and rebellions.

The Lawal Governor also reiterated his firm attitude towards negotiations with rebels but noted that individuals who were willing to submit unconditionally would be given the opportunity to integrate again.

“We do not believe in negotiating with criminals, but if anyone gives up voluntarily and unconditionally, we are open to receive it,” he stressed.
