Zelensky talks about “participating in Putin in Moscow”

Kiev rejected a proposal by Russian President Vladimir Putin Wednesday that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky came to a meeting in Moscow.

Putin said he discussed the matter with the President of the United States Donald Trump.

“Donald asked me if it was possible to organize such a meeting. I said: Yes, it is possible.

“In the end, Zelensky can come to Moscow if he is ready, such a meeting will take place,” said Putin, addressing the press for the first time from his summit with Trump in Alaska a month ago.

Putin said that Zelensky could visit Moscow if there is a prospect of a favorable result, during a press conference in Beijing broadcast on the state television at the end of his four -day visit to China.

At least seven countries offered to host a meeting between Putin and Zelensky, the Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said in response to Putin’s comments on X.

Zelensky is ready to go to one of these countries for a meeting immediately.

Putin’s comments come among the current efforts to end the Moscow war against Ukraine.

Zelensky repeatedly asked for a meeting with Putin to negotiate directly on a ceased the fire in the current conflict, launched by the Kremlin in 2022.

But Putin has constantly stressed that he is willing to meet only if the meeting is well prepared and Russia continues heavy assaults as these discussions drag themselves.

Putin also asked Zelensky’s legitimacy again to conduct negotiations, repeating his argument that Zelensky’s deadline expired in 2024.

Zelensky continues to lead Ukraine pursuant to martial law, which allows him to remain in office beyond his expired term, in line with the Constitution.

Kiev does not keep elections due to martial law, but Putin said that he does not mean that Zelensky should keep his powers and has requested an election to guarantee a possible peace agreement.

Since launched its vast invasion in 2022, Russia controls about 20 % of Ukraine, Moscow asks the territories given to Kiev illegally annexed by Moscow.

Zelensky categorically refuses to give up the territory, stating that this is not allowed by the Ukrainian Constitution.
