₦ 140 billion budget not yet definitive, says the Development Commission of North Central
Abuja (Core Reporter) The North Central Development Commission (NCDC) has issued a clarification relating to the recent media reports surrounding the budget proposal of 140 billion ₦ for 2025, currently under the legislative revision phase.
In a declaration issued on October 3, 2025, the Commission stressed that the proposed budget remains an ongoing job and has not yet been finalized. The NCDC, established less than a month ago, is in the early stages of operational operations of its mandate and on 30 September it appeared in front of the Senate Committee who supervises the Commission to defend its budget estimates.
During the session, the Senate Committee hired the NCDC management in open and closed meetings, examining the proposal and requesting clarifications. Following these resolutions, the Committee made observations and adjustments before granting the provisional approval, pending agreement by the Chamber of Representatives.
“The figure of 140 billion remains unchanged at this stage,” the Commission observed. “However, the allocation of the funds mentioned in some reports in the media does not reflect the adjustments made during the revision of the Senate. These will be captured in the final version once the chamber concludes their control.”
The NCDC has also clarified that the 2025 budget is still a working document and will become effective only after completing the entire legislative trial and is incorporated into the national budget.
By reducing its commitment to transparency and responsibility, the Commission has ensured the public that it strictly adheres to financial regulations and will involve the parties concerned in the States of the North Center and in the FCT.
“While we launch our operations, we will guarantee equity and inclusiveness through complete assessments of strategic needs and consultations,” added the declaration.
The NCDC has recently been established to guide the development of the North North Region of Nigeria, focusing on infrastructure, social services and economic revitalization.
