The State Police Command of Kano arrested 11 students of the government’s secondary school, Bichi, in relation to the gruesome killing of two study companions, an accident that has stunned the local community.
The victims, identified as Hamza Idris Tofawa and Uar Yusuf Dungurawa, were presumably attacked by classmates using local manufacture metal weapons known as “Gwale-Gwale”.
Confirming the development, the spokesman for the command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, declared on Thursday that the suspicions were subjected to interrogations to determine their level of involvement.
“Eleven students have been arrested and investigations are underway to establish the role of each suspicion in the accident,” he said, ensuring the public on the police commitment to justice.
In response, the commissioner for the education of the state of Kano, Ali Makoda, ordered a large -scale investigation.
The directive was broadcast by the permanent secretary of the ministry, Bashir Mohammad, during a visit to the school condolences on Wednesday.
“The Ministry of Education is deeply saddened by this accident and is working closely with the safety agencies to ensure responsibility and prevent future events,” said Mohammad.
A school teacher described murders as the most shocking event in the recent history of the school.
“It is devastating to lose young life in such senseless way,” observed the teacher.
The parents and guardians of the Bichi community have asked for rapid justice and improved security measures between schools.
The bodies of the deceased students were deposited with the morgue of the Bichi General Hospital for the autopsy, while the school remains under close surveillance while the investigations continue.
The police authorities urged the public to remain calm and allow the right trial to take place.
