At least 12 people have been confirmed to have died and 230 others were hospitalized in the cholera outbreak in the state of Niger.
The plague that was first detected on Sundays in the area of the Shiroro Regional Government in the state has spread to at least six LGA – Minna, Bosso, Shiroro, Magama, Could, and Malinya – on Wednesday afternoon.
Health care officials told reporters that 239 people had been affected and are currently receiving treatment in various primary health care centers in affected areas.
In response, the state government has opened an isolation center at the old wing of Senator Idris Kuta Primary Healthcare Center in Minna.
Commissioner of State for Main Health Care, Dr. Ibrahim Dangana, confirmed that the multi-sectoral response team had been deployed to curb the spread of disease.

“We have established a centers of treatment and isolation in LGA affected to contain plague.
He said: “Aggressive sensitization campaigns are ongoing, targeting religious organizations such as Can and Islamic groups, as well as eight Emirates in the state.”
He praised Governor Mohammed Bago for a quick intervention and donor agent for their support.
Also speaking, Director of Public Health at the Tertiary Ministry of Health, Dr. Ibrahim Idris, identified Chanchaga, Minna, Bosso, and Shiroro as the most devastated region.
