The Defense headquarters (DHQ) states that a total of 16 officials of the Nigeria Armed Forces must face military justice for alleged acts of indiscipline and violation of service regulations.
This is contained in a declaration by the Director of Defense Information, Brig.-Gen. Tukur Gusau, Saturday in Abuja.
Gusau said that the officers were arrested during a routine military exercise following investigations on various acts considered incompatible with the military discipline and the ethics of the service.
According to him, the results revealed that some grievances of the officers were linked to the perceived stagnation of the career deriving from repeated failures in the promotion exams and in other issues relating to the service.
“Some of the arrested officers were previously jurisdictions for various crimes, waiting or in the process phase.
“Their conduct was found incompatible with military service standards,” he said.
Gusau explained that at the end of the investigations, all accused staff should have faced adequate disciplinary measures in accordance with the law on the armed forces and established military justice procedures.
He said that the ongoing action was purely disciplinary and part of the routine efforts to preserve the order, discipline and professionalism in the armed forces.
He assured the public that the military were committed to supporting his fundamental values of loyalty, integrity and constitutional obedience under the democratic authority.
“The armed forces of Nigeria will not tolerate any behavior that undermines its cohesion or threatens its constitutional role.
“The military remain fully engaged in the professionalism and defense of the sovereignty of Nigeria,” he added.
