2 killed in the collapse of the Niger mining pit

The police command in Niger confirmed the death of two individuals after a mining pit collapsed in the Farin-Doki area of โ€‹โ€‹the local government of Shiroro.

The manager of the Police Public Relations in Niger, SP Wasiu Inhabitun, confirmed on Monday while he was talking to the journalists of Minna.

Inhabitun said that the pit collapsed on Sunday, trapping two miners later identified as Buhari Kano and Mallam Tasiu, both from the state of Kano.

According to him, the police officers of the Erena division and local residents quickly brought to the scene and started rescue efforts.

Unfortunately, the victims were found lifeless and their bodies were taken to the Zumba hospital for further examination.

The preliminary results suggest that the victims were illegally undermining on the site the evening before the collapse.

Inhabitun added that a complete investigation is underway to discover the exact circumstances that surround the accident.
