A former governor candidate in the State and Anambra Diplomat, Oseloka Obaze, has warned that every political coalition formed ahead of the 2027 general election which does not include Peter Obi, the carrier of the 2023 presidential flag of the Labor Party, is bound to fail.
Obaze, a close ally of Obi and former Secretary of the State Government in Anambra, made this statement during an interview with Arise television on Tuesday. Speaking brightly about Nigerian political paths, he said that so that the meaningful coalition must be formed, it must rise above personal ambitions and partisan loyalty.
“Any coalition that enters 2027 that excludes Peter Obi will almost certainly fail,” Obaze said, explaining Obi’s centrality of the serious opposition strategy in the next election cycle.
While acknowledging a widespread longing for national reform, Obaze deplored that Nigeria’s political culture remained very transactional. He urged political leaders to embrace the vision of people who are more centered on people.
“Politics in Nigeria becomes too transactional. We need leadership that is driven by the goal. We need to ask: What legacy do we leave for the next generation?” he said.
Reflecting on his new departure from the Labor Party, Obaze honestly about the internal chaos that disturbed the party he had helped wake up. He quoted deviations, systemic corruption, and the absence of leadership discipline as a reason for his discharge.
“The Labor Party does not have a leadership structure and capacity to encourage new Nigerian ideals. There is too much neglect for internal processes and the rule of law,” he said.
Although away from partisan politics, Obaze reiterated her commitment to national development and political reform. He asked political actors throughout the spectrum to prioritize competence, integrity, and welfare of citizens when the country prepared another critical election season.
“The work ahead requires unity, not an ego. Leaders must be willing to make personal sacrifices and prioritize the country,” he concluded.
