The Kwande United Front for Democracy (Kufod), a socio -political defense group that supported the democratic balance in Benue’s state, asked on Sunday a fair sharing of power between the communities of Kwande and Ushongo in view of the general elections of 2027.
During a press conference held on Sunday in Makurdi, Kufod reiterated his commitment to the fundamental values of democracy, equity, justice, justice and equal representation, highlighting what he described as a prolonged imbalance in political power at the federal legislative level.
Lead speakers at the Conference – Engr. Isaac Terumun Iyorhen and dr. John Ungwanen Ahile, Kufod’s Conventor, said from Nigeria’s return to democratic domain in 1999, the Kwande representatives held the headquarters of the Kwande/Ushongo representatives for 20 years.
According to them, Ushongo, on the contrary, held the position of only 8 years.
This trend, according to the group, is contrary to the political philosophy of Tiv of “Ya Nava Angbian” (eats and gives your brother his due part).
The group urged the Kwande leaders to give in to Ushongo in the next cycle as a moral duty and move towards restoring mutual trust.
Citing the summons of the Supreme Court of the United States Ruth Bader Ginsburg – “A real democracy is a government of the people who fight for equality for everyone” – Kufod stressed that democracy must reflect collective inclusion.
“It is a moral duty, not only a political preference, to allow Ushongo the opportunity to represent in 2027. Democracy requires confidence – and reconstruct that trust between Kwande and Ushongo in sharing power.”
The group also supports the maintenance of the area of a senate seat for the Kwande in 2027, as a means of balanced representation through the two blocks.
“The gods also added their approval seal … the 2027 ticket belongs to Ushongo,” he said.
Using historical facts, ENG
“Ushongo should field only candidates in the next electoral cycle. Any aspiring Kwande, he said, should” applaud for the increase in Ushongo’s competitors “.
