2027: Jonathan A Statesman Dear, but cannot open Tinubu – APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Friday rejected the threat caused by former President Goodluck Jonathan to President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election.

Jonathan, who lost the re -election offer in 2025 for the late President Muhammadu Buhari, was being persuaded by supporters to seek re -elections in 2027.

In a statement, APC Publicity Secretary in Lagos, Mr. Seye Oladejo, noted that the capacity of the former president to shift President Tinubu remained doubtful.

He said: “While we acknowledge the role of former president in a peaceful Democratic transition in 2015 – an action that makes him praise correctly at home and abroad – we must state, in clear terms, that Nigeria has moved beyond the politics of sentiment, nostalgia, and symbolism.

“The current and future challenges require bold leadership, capable, and think back to the comfort of the past that is far from perfect.

“Let it be clear: good luck itself is not a governance strategy.”

Oladejo accused that Jonathan’s government left a country that was wrestling with severe structural weaknesses – from uncontrolled corruption to a worrying unsafe and economic inertia.

“While some people might look back at those years with rose glasses, we must remind ourselves that nostalgia is not a policy platform.

“Emotions cannot encourage economic reform, and sentimentality will not improve power plants, insecurity, youth unemployment, or decay of the education sector,” said the Chief of the APC.

The spokesman also referred to constitutional and political complications from the potential for Jonathan’s nomination.

According to him, after completing more than one term of office, every return offer will definitely trigger legal disputes and political instability – disruption that Nigeria cannot need when acts determine are needed in all sectors of national life.

“In addition, the political relevance of the former president was complicated by his new involvement in all party lines.

“The temptation with APC and the absence of the strategic rebuilding efforts to raise questions about loyalty, clarity of vision, and political intentions.

“We believe that the future of Nigeria does not lie in recycling leadership but in visionary governance rooted in integrity, innovation, and resilience.

“Former President Jonathan remains a respected statesman. His inheritance as a peaceful democrat is guaranteed. But the inheritance is not a manifesto, and nostalgia is not government.

“We urge Nigerians to refuse emotional shortcuts and remain focused on the need for leadership that is capable, accountable, and transformative.

“When 2027 approached, we should not reach backwards in the despair, but move forward with courage and clarity,” Oladejo concluded.
